Ocean Beach Farmers Market

Where in San Diego can you find freshly caught fish, locally grown fruits and vegetables, yummy ethnic style food, beautiful art, and live music to enjoy? The answer is Ocean Beach. Located at the west end of the I-8 freeway, Ocean Beach is the epitome of Southern California living. With its laid back attitude and friendly community, Ocean beach is the perfect place to bring the family, spend quality time with your significant other, or even kill some time on a solo mission; And there is no better day to come to OB than Farmers Market Day.
Every Wednesday this eclectic beach town puts on a wonderful farmers market. From 4 to 7pm (4 to 8 in summer) historic Newport Avenue (crosstreets Cable and Bacon) is transformed into a smorgasbord of good food and fun. The Ocean Beach Farmers Market has something for everyone. The kids will have a great time bouncing around in the astro-jump, and for the adventure seeking little guy, llama rides! While the kids are entertained, eat tantalizing foods from homemade tamales to crepes or buy some fresh Southern California honey. Walk around and check out the photography, paintings, and home made jewelry; maybe even buy some affordable flowers for mom or your girlfriend. With over 100 unique vendors and fun for the whole family, it is no wonder that the Ocean Beach Farmers Market was voted “The Best Farmers Market in California” by Sunset Magazine.
OB is one of the last remaining bastions of the 60’s hippie culture in San Diego. If you feel like a change of scenery and some AC, duck into The Black, a wild combination of a book store, a clothing store, a head shop, and a souvenir store. With all its Ocean Beach charm, you’ll never want to leave.
Getting late? Head down to the Ocean Beach Pier for a fantastic end to a great day. The longest pier in Southern California, the OB pier offers an amazing view of the town and the ocean. Especially if you happen to catch that San Diego sunset. If it starts to get chilly when the sun goes down, warm up with a nice cup of hot cocoa from the coffee shop at the end of the pier.
With its interesting shops, good food, and hippie surf culture, Ocean Beach is the perfect place to spend one of San Diego’s beautiful days.
