Weekend Dining: Mission Hills

We are trying something new at the OTI blog: a weekly restaurant/coffee shop/good eats recommendations. We’re starting off with some of our staff’s favorites, but if there is a “must eat” spot that you love, PLEASE let us know!

This week we are spotlighting Mission Hills

Coffee House

• Rich, dark, tasty…coffee. Visit Espresso Mio for some freshly made brew or an expertly made espresso. Enjoy your drink on their patio or deck that overlooks the canyon and relax in the peaceful surrounding that is Mission Hills.

Breakfast

• Visit The Huddle for an authentic lunch counter feel. Incredible milkshakes – have one for breakfast! It’s OK, you’re on vacation. Also make sure you try their homemade jam.

Lunch

• If you’re a fan of Mexican food and are adventurous enough to try a “hole-in-the-wall” (where the good ones usually are), go to El Cuervo (towards Hillcrest area). The food is delicious and the staff is really nice. Make sure to try their delicious salsa bar…yummm.

• “I’m just mad about Saffron. A-Saffron’s mad about me.” If you love Thai comfort food then visit Saffron Noodles & Sate on India St. If you have room for dessert, ask for the Mango Sticky Rice, it is incredible!

Dinner

The Wine Vault & Bistro (next to Saffron, on the 2nd floor) is a very happening wine shop. The owner maintains a great selection of wine and pairs them nicely with a select choice of menu items. Both the food and the wines are delicious. They continuously change their evening’s specials, so be sure to check out their online menu.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT

If you’re a cheese lover, YOU MUST visit Venissimo Cheese on Washington St. They have a great selection of cheeses from around the world, and the staff is so friendly and helpful, they are always happy to answer any questions or offer cheese suggestions. It’s somewhat hidden, so you might not see it at first. If a drink is what you need, and karaoke is the thrill you seek, then The Lamplighter on Washington St., a local dive bar, is where you need to be! This spot is a San Diegan staple.

Let us know if you have enjoyed any of these establishments!
